![]() ![]() Eeak! Yea, I'd found a battery all right and for that price I'd better be REALLY happy with it.:( That's the problem with buying car batteries. Unfortunately, the price was in the upper $200s. So, I'd found a battery that fit, had the required storage capacity and I was relatively sure wouldn't croak and leave me stranded in the middle of the Utah desert somewhere. The Odyssey just fits lengthwise with about an inch to spare on each end. ![]() It's not real tall but it is long and it weighs in at 60 lbs. The Odyssey Group 65 is a BIG, HEAVY battery. The Group 65 size is the largest battery that can be practically fitted in a Montero Sport without surgery. Kind of harkened back to the good old days of Optima.Īfter a little more surfing I found Odyssey's PC1750 Group 65 battery. Still, the rumor was that Odyssey batteries were very durable and the warranty was pretty impressive. Unfortunately, they're not cheap and while they may work great in a muscle car I wasn't familiar with anyone that had one in any kind of a serious off road vehicle. A lot of the street rod and race crowd have run these for years and everyone seemed to be happy with them. These were batteries I was somewhat familiar with. So, after searching until I couldn't see straight I finally lighted on the Odyssey battery web site. That in itself isn't necessarily a bad thing but it is confusing when you're searching for batteries. The third thing I found out is that most of what was left of my search was actually the SAME BATTERY with someone else's label stuck to the outside. The second thing I found out is that there are only a few options if you want a GOOD AGM battery - one that isn't manufactured in China or the Philippines or somewhere else using slave labor. The first thing I found out is that there are a lot of options for anyone searching for an Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) dry cell battery now days. However, it turned out the search was worth it. Unfortunately, Optima's apparent ups and downs with quality control and their lack of group 65 alternative for the Yellow or Blue top 'forced' me into a search I didn't really want to start. With that understanding the decision to switch to a completely different manufacture was not done lightly or without some serious qualms. Their amazing durability and long life in everything from tractors, boats, RVs and hotrods to crawlers always made the question of what battery to buy for the next thing a moot point. My family has run them in everything that takes a car battery since the mid 1980s. I picked both of these up from the same Autozone.I've always been an Optima fan. I ended up picking up two AGM diehard platinum batteries, the same model for each vehicle. Over the last 6 months the batteries in both our 80 and Lx470 needed replacement. Maybe a bad batch? Am I crazy or did I really luck out and get two bunk batteries? I picked both of these up from the same Autozone. The last Diehard I bought came from Sears back in 2014, and as far as I know it is still kicking. I am suspecting I got another battery with an internal short? The 80 had previously sat for a week or so with no parasitic drain or issues. Tried to charge it and got an error code from my charger indicating it had sulfated. Get out my multimeter and check battery voltage. Woke up today and went to start the 80 after it had been sitting for a week. Last week it sat parked for 8 days and fired right up. 5v so I suspected an internal short? I got that replaced under warranty. Eventually I charged the battery to full and took it out of the vehicle as a test. I have not removed that system but confirmed the power is disconnected. The only aftermarket electronic is a DVD video system for the rear seats. At first I thought we left some accessory on but I ruled that our after the 3rd occurrence. I say randomly because it would be fine for a few days and then would be dead in the morning. On the Lexus I had a strange issue about 3 weeks after install where the battery would randomly drain overnight. ![]()
